Katie

Katie and Finn

Katie has over 11 years experience teaching in secondary schools. She began her teaching career as a geography teacher and found a passion for pastoral leadership. Katie progressed to the Senior Leadership Team at a large secondary academy in inner city Peterborough where she held the position of Designated Safeguarding Lead for a number of years and supported both staff and students in ensuring the best outcomes for young people facing a broad range of challenges. Katie took a career break from teaching to raise her young family and returned to work for a local youth work charity working with students in schools and in the community. She delivered alternative provision sessions to secondary school students, supported open community groups and planned and delivered heritage arts projects and wellbeing sessions to young people.

In her spare time Katie spent two years as a volunteer assistant leader for the local Beavers colony, working with children from 5 to 8 years old; she still regularly supports the local performing arts school as a chaperone supporting children aged 3 to 16. Katie also sat as an Academy Committee Member for a Cambridgeshire primary school helping to drive school improvement and regularly volunteered at the local primary school to hear children reading.

Katie has a real passion for the calming and healing benefits that animals can bring and combines this with her passion for improving outcomes for young people in her work with UpliftEd.

In addition to her teaching qualifications Katie continually strives to develop her skills and understanding and as such has completed the short course ASDAN delivery training, Bronze and Silver Arts Award training, Level 2 qualification in children and young people’s mental health, Therapy Dog Training UK workshops 1 and 2.
